82nd Annual Academy Awards

Next year’s 82nd annual Academy Awards ceremony has been bumped up a few days to March 7. It will air live on ABC, from the Kodak Theater, in Los Angeles.

Leslie Unger, a spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said that they had moved the Ceremony to avoid it overlapping with the Winter Olympics.

The 2010 Winter Olympic Games will take place February 12-28, this year’s Oscars was held on February 22. Until just recently the Academy Awards were an end of March event.

Unger commented on the Academy Awards date change on Wednesday saying:

“It has been in February since then, except for one year, in 2006, where the circumstances were the same as next year, to not coincide with the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, nominations ballots will be mailed to members Dec. 28 and nominations polls will close Jan. 23. Nominations will be announced Feb. 2. In terms of the nominating process, that puts another week in the schedule for members to see movies.”
