Reportedly tired of Independent Senator Joe Lieberman’s “moderate” politics, actor Alec Baldwin has toyed with the idea of running for the seat himself, telling Playboy Magazine:

“I’d love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him.”

Recently though, Baldwin blogged that he would not be moving to Connecticut, but that he was disappointed with Lieberman’s stance on many issues. With reelection looming for him in 2012, the senator said on CNN’s State Of The Union:

“You know, I mean, I must say that I respect Alec Baldwin as an actor as a comedian, and if he wants to run, that’s his right. Make my day.”

You may be wondering: since when did Alec Baldwin even begin to be involved in politics? The Emmy award-winning actor claims he was approached by a Democratic law firm who wanted him to make a run for Governor in Ohio. Another option he appeared to be pondering was Senate seats in NY, currently filled by Senators Chuck Schumer and Tim Bishop.

After much speculation, it turns out his political aspirations were nothing by hypothetical. About the prospect of moving to Ohio or Connecticut, Baldwin said:

“…it’s all fantasy. I’m a carry-me-out-in-a-box New Yorker. Lastly, no I am not moving to Connecticut to run against Joe Lieberman. As much as I think Lieberman is an enormous letdown to the party that gave him their nomination for Vice President, I am sure that Democratic Party leaders in that state will take care of themselves.”

What do you think? Would Alec Baldwin defeat Lieberman if they did run against each other? Let us hear your opinion in the comments section below.
