Although the details surrounding his death have yet to be released, the family and friends of Stephen Gately have announced it is not due to drugs or alcohol.

Speaking on the families’ behalf at this time was Mr. Kean, a close friend of the Gately family:

“There’s no foul play involved and it’s not suicide. It’s just a tragic accident is what we’ve been told and we’re happy that that is correct information.”

“There is nothing untoward, it’s not drugs, we don’t believe, it’s not suicide, it’s not murder, it’s not a fight. That’s what we’ve been told.”

Stephen Gatley, who has been a member of the Irish boy band Boyzone for over ten years, was reportedly vacationing with his partner Andrew Cowles in Majorca. The couple are said to have enjoyed a night out on the town. The following day Gately did not wake up.

Gately’s remains will be sent back to his family in Ireland. Members of Boyzone, Shane Lynch, Mickey Graham, Keith Duffy, and Ronan Keaning, have decided to fly out to the Spanish island to pay their respects. They have also released a statement on their website regarding the death of their friend Stephen Gately.

“We are completely devastated by the loss of our friend and brother, Stephen. We have shared such wonderful times together over the years and were all looking forward to sharing many more. Stephen was a beautiful person in both body and spirit. He lit up our lives and those of the many friends he had all over the world. Our love and sympathy go out to Andrew and Stephen’s family. We love you and will miss you forever, ‘Steo’.”

Aside from Stephen Gately’s success in music the singer has also been seen in both Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium.
