Here is the first official full-length trailer for ‘Crank 2: High Voltage’ starring Jason Statham. The action-crime thriller will be released in theaters in the U.S. on April 17, 2009. See photos and the movie trailer video here.
The movie is a sequel to the 2006 movie ‘Crank’ and, like the original, is written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the same visionary filmmakers who are also behind the forthcoming movie ‘Game’ starring Gerard Butler. Jason Statham reprises his role as professional assassin Chev Chelio.
This is the official movie trailer released by the studio, Lionsgate, which replaces the previous trailer which leaked online several days ago, and which was notoriously NSFW (not safe for work) as it was filled with violence, profanity and surgery scenes. This trailer is just as action-packed but presents the over-the-top action and general frenzy in more of a context.
The new trailer reveals that the sequel takes off right where the first movie ended, with Chev falling from a helicopter and surviving. We next discover that his nearly invincible body is being harvested for organs by Chinese mobsters who extract his indestructible heart and replace it with an inferior battery-powered artificial heart that requires frequent jolts of electricity to keep it going. Chev goes after the the mobsters and along the way, the streets of Los Angeles are filled with mayhem and chaos. His numerous attempts to keep jump-starting his failing heart, with jumper cables, cigarette lighters, static electricity from hapless bystanders, etc. add chaos and comedic moments.
The filmmakers shot the entire movie with hand-held consumer and prosumer digital video cameras. It was produced by by Lakeshore Entertainment and will be distributed by Lionsgate.
Jason Statham, a former champion diver on the British Olympic team and a fashion model for French Connection, was the star of the ‘Transporter’ movies, ‘Death Race’ and ‘The Bank Job.’ He also starred in several Guy Ritchie crime movies, including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Revolver, and Snatch. Other returning cast members in the ‘Crank 2′ sequel are Amy Smart (Road Trip, Mirrors) reprising her role as Chev’s girlfriend, Eve; country music star Dwight Yoakam (Sling Blade) as Doc Miles, and Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) as Venus. The movie also stars Clifton Collins Jr. (Capote, Star Trek [2009]) and Bai Ling (Red Corner, Love Ranch).
