Julia Roberts and Clive Owen

The movie focuses on two former spies with a romantic history together; CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and MI6 agent Ray Koval (Owen). Both have left government intelligence to become corporate spies. They become involved in a high stakes war between two rival multinational pharmaceutical corporations who are seeking market domination. Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti portray the CEOs of the rival corporations which are both in a race to secure a formula and the first patent for a product. The former spies collaborate in an elaborate scheme against the corporations.

But as the stakes rise, the mystery deepens and the tactics get dirtier, the trickiest secret for Claire and Ray is their growing attraction. And as they each try to stay one double-cross ahead, two career loners find their schemes endangered by the only thing they can’t cheat their way out of: love.

Tony Gilroy is both writer and director of the movie. He previously directed and wrote the Academy Award-nominated legal thriller “Michael Clayton” which starred George Clooney. Julia Roberts and Clive Owen previously starred together in “Closer” (2004), Patrick Marber’s acclaimed stage drama. “Duplicity” was produced for Universal Pictures by Laura Bickford, Jennifer Fox, John Gilroy and Kerry Orent.

Movies Releasing Friday - November 21

There’s not a whole lot going on this weekend, even without the movies. The weather is getting colder, the holidays aren’t quite here yet, and the presidential election is over. Well, with the movies releasing Friday, there will be no help at the theater, either. The only films coming out this week are “Twilight” and “Bolt”.

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson of “Twilight”, which releases November 21

Twilight

This week’s romance, “Twilight” is the story of forbidden love between a teenage girl and a vampire. But Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are soul mates, so what could stand in their way? Aside from her parents, the townspeople, and the other vampires, nothing. The film is based on the book by Stephanie Meyer, which has gained a huge following since it was published. But just so you know, it’s more about the love story than the battle of the vampires, so don’t expect too much action.

But for the legion of fans of Stephenie Meyer’s book, this entertaining adaptation provides at least three movies worth of teen angst, dreamy good looks and sparkly-skinned vampires (more on that later). Although you may not get sucked into the world of “Twilight” after watching this movie, you will at least understand what all the fuss is about.

It sounds a little like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” meets … a more serious teenage love story that I can’t think of at the moment.

Bolt

The latest from Walt Disney, “Bolt” tells the story of an actor dog who doesn’t realize it’s just a television show. When he escapes from the set on a mission to save Penny, he winds up in a whole new adventure he never saw coming. In the television show, he has superpowers, and as much as he tries, they just don’t carry over to the real world. But that’s how Bolt will find out who he really is, find his True Self. Once again, the celebrities line up to do the voices. We’ve got John Travolta, Miley Cyrus, and James Lipton, and it looks like they’ve come together for success.

This is Disney’s first animated feature since Pixar’s Lasseter took over the company, and his touch is evident from the first frame. Like Uncle Walt (Disney), Lasseter believes that “for every laugh, there should be a tear.” … You won’t need to keep a pack of tissue at the ready here, but “Bolt” does have some lump-in-the-throat moments courtesy of a vividly drawn, huggable main character you grow to love.

Natalya Rudakova Is Transporter 3’s Valentina

Meet Natalya Rudakova, the actress starring as Valentina in the upcoming action flick “Transporter 3″. See her biography, photos, and video here.

Natalya Rudakova

“Transporter 3″ releases in theaters nationwide on Thanksgiving, November 26, 2008. This is the third in the Jason Statham franchise about delivering mystery, and mostly dangerous, packages. Natalya plays Valentina, the kidnapped daughter of a Ukranian government official, who Frank Martin has to deliver safely, while dodging the people trying to re-kidnap her along the way. Unfortunately, the preliminary reviews don’t look so good, with words like dismal, noisy circles, and anemic getting thrown around. But don’t worry, we’ve got the sex appeal of Jason Statham and his chemistry with new actress Natalya Rudakova.

Natalya Rudakova Biography

As a biography, not much is known about Natalya Rudakova. She was living in New York City when she was suddenly discovered and began acting.

Natalya gets her acting debut in the upcoming “Transporter 3″, which releases on Thanksgiving of this year. The film should do well, considering the first two have pulled in over $68 million in the US combined, and the holidays are one of the busiest times of the year for the movie theaters.

“Transporter 3″’s writer, Luc Besson, discovered Natalya as she was walking the streets of New York, heading to work at a hair salon. He tells the story,

“She just passed by me and I noticed her freckles and blue eyes. I was with my assistant and I said, ‘Are you seeing this?’ Of course, if I said to her, ‘Hey, I’m Luc Besson,’ she’d probably run, so my assistant asked me if she should ask her if she’s a model or something, so she’d feel more comfortable. So I proposed to her if she wanted to try to act and my assistant and I went back to Paris and we gave her some 25 lessons. We prepped her for about six months and then we brought her to Paris to verify if she was ready or not. We had a couple of other girls auditioning to frighten her, but, honestly, she was very good on the screentest, so we hired her.”

Twilight Trailer - I Know What You Are

“Twilight”, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, releases in theaters just in time for the holidays on November 21, 2008. There has been anticipation for this movie for months now, but it has built even greater in the weeks leading up to the release date. The people in charge of releasing the film are posting video clips from the movie, just enough to entice viewers. The first video posted is “I Know What You Are”.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart stars in “Twilight”

“Twilight” tells the story of Bella Swan, a teenage girl who falls in love with the unlikeliest of suitors, a vampire named Edward Cullen. Edward is immortal, but he finds the one thing he’s been waiting his whole life for, a soul mate. But a mortal and a vampire can’t live in peace, can they? Slowly Bella becomes drawn into the conflicts that haunt a vampire’s world.

The film is inspired by the books of Stephanie Meyer, a stay-at-home who loves to read, and says she wrote the book because it was exactly what she wanted to read. She worked with the screenwriters to bring her ideas to life, and together they’ve created a much-anticipated film by audiences of all ages. And the film is just what the original author wanted,

So many scenes were exactly the way I had envisioned them. It was partially creepy and partially wonderful.

“Nothing But the Truth” Movie Trailer Video

Here is the first trailer for Rod Lurie’s “Nothing But the Truth.” The political suspense thriller will be released in theaters January 9, 2009. See photos and the movie trailer here.

kate beckinsale 1

Kate Beckinsale

“Nothing But the Truth” is based on the Valerie Plame case, the CIA agent whose identity was revealed in the media and former New York Times reporter Judith Miller went to jail to protect her sources. In the “Nothing But the Truth” fictionalization, Kate Beckinsale portrays a Washington newspaper reporter, Rachel Armstrong, whose investigations reveal a CIA agent, played by Vera Farmiga. Armstrong is put in prison when she refuses to reveal her source. Angela Bassett portrays Armstrong’s sympathetic editor in chief and Alan Alda portrays the attorney who attempts to free her from prison. Rounding out the cast are David Schwimmer as Beckinsale’s husband and Noah Wyle as the lawyer placed in charge of defending her.

Armstrong is called before a special prosecutor (Matt Dillon) who demands that she reveals her source; when she refuses, she finds out exactly what her country will do to protect its secrets in the name of national security.

Rod Lurie is both director and writer of the movie, which was produced for Warner Bros. by Akiva Goldsman and Jerry and Janet Zucker. This is not Lurie’s first political drama; he is also known for his debut film, the 1999 political thriller “Deterrence” which starred Kevin Pollak as America’s first Jewish President and the critically movie “The Contender” which followed in 2000, starring Joan Allen as a scandal-ridden Vice President, with Jeff Bridges as the President and Gary Oldman as a conservative Republican member of Congress who uncovers the scandals.

The suspenseful trailer is full of fast moving, foreboding scenes and snippets of courtroom drama.

DVDs Releasing Tuesday, November 18

Some big box office hits are making their way to DVD this week. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll love, and that’s only in the first of the DVDs releasing Tuesday, “Wall-E”. Also releasing are “Tropic Thunder” and “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2″.

Wall E

Wall-E Releases on DVD November 18

Wall-E

A story of robot love and preservation of the Earth, that’s “Wall-E”. We first find Wall-E alone on Earth, having been left to clean up the mess we left behind. But when a spaceship lands 700 years later, Wall-E’s world is turned upside down. As one reviewer puts it,

The first 40 minutes or so of “Wall-E” — in which barely any dialogue is spoken, and almost no human figures appear on screen — is a cinematic poem of such wit and beauty that its darker implications may take a while to sink in.

The film is both a look at how sustainable our existence as it is now really is, and a “sweet and simple love story”.

Tropic Thunder

While filming a war movie, three diva-like actors anger their director so badly, that he decides to drop them in an actual war zone. Trouble for the actors is, they think the film is still rolling. Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and Robert Downey, Jr. play the actors who are in for the shock of their lives when they’re let out of the helicopter in the middle of the Golden Triangle, where the Flaming Dragon gangs controls the drug crop. The Flaming Dragon mistakes the actors for DEA agents, and violence (and of course, hilarity) ensue. And in the madness, “Tropic Thunder” delivers,

Think of all the ways you can hurt yourself laughing, as in fall down, split your sides, bust a gut, blow your mind. You get it all in Tropic Thunder, a knockout of a comedy that keeps you laughing constantly. It’s also killer smart, lacing combustible action with explosive gags.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2

Two years and the same pair of jeans later, the girls are back in “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2″. Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera and Alexis Bledel are getting the foursome back together. Three years after the first adventure, the girls are embarking on their first year of college and the summer that follows. Through the laughs and the tears, the girls discover themselves, and rediscover their pants. Most critics are fans, with one describing it as “exactly as good” as the first, and that works.

New Star Trek Trailer (Video)

Here is the new Star Trek Trailer video that was just released. The movie was originally scheduled for release on May 8th, 2009, but the date has been pushed up to the Christmas 2008 season.

J.J. Abrams is directing the movie, which contains sounds and images from the heyday of our exploration into space. JFK’s voice is heard launching the space program, and John Glen is referenced. I will barf if this is one of those Star Trek movies that goes back in time but anything is possible in the final frontier.

Star Trek XI apparently does not yet have a subtitle so give us your suggestions in the comments and your guesses about the plot.

Meryl Streep Set for Dewey Library Cat

Screen legend Meryl Streep is set to star as a librarian in the screen adaptation of Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World. See photos and video of the Oscar winning actress who is embarking on her latest role.

meryl streep 1

Meryl Streep

The best-selling nonfiction book by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter is based on a remarkable real-life story. Meryl Streep will portray the author of the book, a small-town librarian who found a stray kitten in the after-hours book return slot. The story explores how the stray, named Dewey Readmore Books, became the library mascot and impacted the lives of the people living in Spencer, Iowa for 19 years.

But the story of Dewey went far beyond the small town. When he died in 2006, his obituary ran in more than 250 newspapers, including the New York Times. The following year, Grand Central Publishing paid Vicki Myron and her co-author Bret Witter $1.2 million for Dewey’s life story.

In an interview, Myron talked about her intentions in telling the remarkable story of the orange tabby cat whose photo appears on the book’s cover.

Dewey’s story is timeless: a tale of survival and triumph over adversity. I wanted both his fans and those who never knew him to be inspired and love him as I did.

Now New Line Cinema has acquired the screen rights.Temple Hill Entertainment partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce the movie and Pamela Gray will write the screenplay. Gray wrote the screenplay for the 1999 movie “Music of the Heart” starring Meryl Streep.

This will be Meryl Streep’s second movie with an Iowa setting. Previously, she costarred with Clint Eastwood, who also produced and directed, the 1995 movie “The Bridges of Madison County,” a screen adaptation of Robert James Waller’s best-selling novel. The highly celebrated actress has a long history of appearing in critically acclaimed screen adaptations of books, including “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” (1981), “Out of Africa” (1985) and “Sophie’s Choice” (1982) for which she won a Best Actress Academy Award.

“2012″ Movie Trailer Video

Here is the teaser trailer for Roland Emmerich’s “2012.” The highly anticipated epic will be released in theaters July 10, 2009. See photos and the movie trailer here.

roland emmerich 1

Roland Emmerich

“2012″ is a post-apocalyptic movie based on ancient Mayan legends which predict the world will end in the year 2012. The movie has an ensemble cast–John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson and others–portraying survivors who are coping with unfolding catastrophic events as the civilized world comes to an end.

German director, producer and screenwriter Roland Emmerich, who rose to international prominence with the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day” (the first movie in history to gross more than $100 million in one week), is well known for his epic disaster movies. Thus it is no surprise that he is at the helm of a movie which tackles the much speculated and much discussed 2012 prophesy.

Emmerich is also the co-writer (with Harald Kloser) and co-producer of the movie for Sony Pictures Entertainment. In an interview earlier this year, he talked about the impetus for “2012.

“…This whole movie I’m doing next was inspired by just the phenomenon of the Internet when you type in Google, ‘2012′, you get 240 million hits. That’s a lot. And it’s just, so many people write about it, believe it, that our world comes to an end in 2012. I said wow. I kind of said before I will never do a disaster movie again. I said, for this idea I have to do it again.”

The teaser trailer delivers menacing music with a montage of rugged landscapes while asserting that indeed the world will end in 2012.
