American Pie 4 Coming to Theaters?

There are rumors floating around that there will be a new American Pie coming soon to a theater near you. Could this be true? Read the rest of the story and see photos and video from American Pie below.

Jason Biggs

Will Jason Biggs reprise his role of ‘Jeeem’?

There are some rumors floating around that Universal will abandon their fairly successful straight-to-DVD American Pie franchise and put out another sequel in theaters. That’s pretty much all that anyone knows for sure - the rest seems to just be speculation. What cast members will reprise their roles remains to be seen, although it’s hard to imagine a movie without the key characters of Jim (Jason Biggs), Jim’s Dad (Eugene Levy), and Stiffler (Sean William Scott).

This rumored fourth installment in the series comes five years after the last one, where Jim and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) got married. This leads to speculation that the film will feature the couple possibly starting a family or maybe dealing with some sort of marriage difficulty.

The original American Pie made around $235 million back in 1999. If Universal could tap into that original audience while incorporating newcomers to the series, they stand to make a pretty penny. Time will tell if this shapes up or not.

‘Gavin and Stacey’ stars Mathew Horne and James Corden team up for the upcoming horror comedy ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’. Read the rest of the story and see photos and the trailer below.

Mathew HorneJames Corden

Mathew Horne and James Corden star in ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’

Comedy duo Mathew Horne and James Corden from hit British sitcom ‘Gavin and Stacey’ hope to take their success to the big screen with ‘Lesbian Vampire Killers’. The horror-comedy has the duo stuck in a town where all the women have been enslaved by an evil vampire curse. Apparently, an ancient curse falls on the Welsh town and all the women are captured by a pack of lesbian vampires. The remaining men send two lads out into the surrounding moors as a sacrifice. I’m sure lots of skin and lesbian action accompanies the poor boys on their journey.

The film was written by Stewart Williams and Paul Hupfield, and was directed by Phil Claydon, and features a cameo by singer Lily Allen. The writers say they developed the film after they were asked to come up with the most comical film title ever. Check out screen shots from the movie here.

9 Movie Trailer Video

Here is the first full-length trailer for Shane Acker’s 9, a computer animated movie produced by Tim Burton. It will be released in theaters September 9, 2009. See photos and the movie trailer video here.

Tim Burton

9 is a feature-length motion picture based on WETA Digital artist Shane Acker’s 2005 animated short film of the same title which was nominated for the Academy Award for Animated Short Film in 2006. Tim Burton (”The Corpse Bride”) and Timur Bekmambetov (”Wanted,” “Nightwatch”) are the movie’s producers, with a soundtrack by composer Danny Elfman, who has composed music for all but two of Burton’s movies. The movie was co-written by Acker and Pamela Pettler (”Corpse Bride,” “Monster House”).

The movie uses a stylized CGI animation that resembles stop motion animation. The setting is a bleak post-apocalyptic world. The title character, 9 finds himself all alone until he discovers a small group of others who have taken refuge from the machines who have taken over the earth and are trying to destroy all the remaining humans. 9 takes a leadership role and convinces the others that they must confront the machines to discover why they are trying to destroy them. As events unfold, the future of civilization depends on them.

9 features the voice of Elijah Wood as the title character. Other characters are 1, a war veteran (Christopher Plummer); 2, an inventor (Martin Landau); 5, a mechanic (John C. Reilly); 6 a visionary and artist (Crispin Glover); and 7, a warrior (Jennifer Connelly).

The trailer shows a foreboding and dark world, beautifully captured in animation. It has been described as what we would see “if LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy found himself in the world of Half-Life 2.”

Here is a gallery of images from the movie trailer. More photos and 9 movie trailer video are below.

Eliza Dushku goes topless

Eliza Dushku plays a detective who suffers a nervous breakdown in her new movie ‘The Alphabet Killer’. Her character becomes overly involved in the case, which causes the breakdown and leads to a diagnosis of schizophrenia and a two year stint in a mental institution. The movie, which was based on real murders that took place in Rochester, New York, during the early-1970s, had a short theatrical run and practically went straight to video.

During a scene that takes place in a hospital, Eliza Dushku pulls off her top and changes in front of a doctor - and the camera. The result? An uncensored topless scene. Check out photos and a video clip here.

‘Yes Man’ is Weekend Box Office Winner

Jim Carrey and ‘Yes Man’ claim the top spot in the Weekend Box Office race. Read the rest of the story and see the top 10, as well as photos and videos from the top movies below.

Jim Carrey Yes Man

Jim Carrey wins with Yes Man

Jim Carrey’s new movie ‘Yes Man’ was able to take the number one spot in a sluggish weekend at the box office. The bad winter storms across the country limited box office sales, and ‘Yes Man’ made only $18.2 million over the weekend. While grabbing the top spot is always wonderful, the figure was disappointing given Jim Carrey’s previous winners netted $68 million (Bruce Almighty) and $31 million (Liar Liar).

The sluggish sales of ‘Yes Man’ was enough to beat out Will Smith’s new movie ‘Seven Pounds’, which brought in $16 million. This put a stop to Will Smith’s record of eight consecutive number one movies.

Last week’s winner, ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ dropped nearly 70% of its audience this weekend, leaving it at #4. New animated movie ‘The Tale of Despereaux’ came in 3rd with a decent $10.5 million. ‘Four Christmases’ continues to hang around, taking in $7.7 million and crossing the $100 million mark for total box office sales. ‘Quantum Solace’ looks like it might not surpass ‘Casino Royale’ for the biggest grossing Bond film of all time, despite making $27 million more in it’s opening weekend.

Weekend Box Office Top 10

The Weekend Box Office Top 10 for December 19-21, 2008:

1. Yes Man - $18.2 million (new)

Marisa Tomei

Marisa Tomei goes topless

Academy Award winning actress Marisa Tomei bares all (and clips on some nipple rings) as a stripper in her new movie ‘The Wrestler’. Check out some photos here. The 44 year old, who was hesitant to sign on to this project, said she talked to exotic dancers to prepare for the role:

I talked to a bunch of different girls and a bunch of different dancers. It wasn’t like I sat and had big interviews with them or anything; we just went out, had some drinks, went to a bunch of clubs, watched a lot of dances, got some dances, brought some guy friends with me, brought some girl friends with me… It’s like anything, any subculture. You get in there, and it’s all individuals.

She also said she had a lot of influence on the costume decisions for her character, including those nipple rings. She said they weren’t in the script and they were her idea. They were clip-ons that were put on and “pinched in” with eyelash glue, and she said they hurt a little bit.

Despite her original hesitation about the role, taking the part seems to have paid off. ‘The Wrestler’ is up for numerous Golden Globes, including a best supporting actress nod for Marisa.

Batman 3: Eddie Murphy is The Riddler?

The cast of the new Batman movie has just been revealed, and Eddie Murphy has been tapped to play The Riddler. Read the rest of the story and see photos of the new cast members below.

Eddie Murphy 1

Eddie Murphy to play The Riddler

The internet is all a twitter with the announcement of the cast of the upcoming Batman movie, tentatively titled Gotham. In a move I’m… shocked… by, it’s been reported that Eddie Murphy has been tapped to reprise Jim Carrey’s role of The Riddler. Not only is this surprising because Eddie Murphy hasn’t been in anything of note recently (his last movie, Meet Dave, was a huge dud), but there were numerous rumors that Johnny Depp would be taking on the role. I, personally, much prefer this idea.

Also reported was the signing of Shia LaBeouf to the role of Batman sidekick Robin. This is also interesting, considering Batman Christian Bale has said he would not be in a movie that included the Robin character. It’s also odd given the timeline of the new set of movies. The way the current storyline is set, Robin would be an infant, so casting a 22 year old to play the part doesn’t make sense.

Also announced as a member of the cast is British actress Rachel Weisz, who is set to play Catwoman. This also marks a departure from early gossip, which had Angelina Jolie pegged for the part.

‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ Trailer Video

Here is the first official trailer for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” starring Hugh Jackman as the title character. This most recent installment of the hugely popular X-Men movie series will be released in theaters May 1, 2009. See photos and the movie trailer video here.

Hugh Jackman

This is our first look at the highly anticipated superhero movie which is based on the Marvel Comics series “Wolverine: Origins” and is an X-Men prequel, set 20 years before the timeframe of the X-Men movie trilogy (”X-Men,” “X2″ and “X-Men: The Last Stand”). The movie focuses on mutant Wolverine and his time with Team X, before his skeleton was bonded with adamantium, an indestructible metal. The movie was directed by Gavin Hood and shot on location in Australia and New Zealand for 20th Century Fox.

According to producer Lauren Shuler Donner, the movie will have a darker tone, similar to the first “X-Men” and with a lot of action. Fans can also look forward to cameo appearances by two anti-hero mutants, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Gambit (Taylor Kitsch) who make their first appearances in the movie franchise.

The movie’s star, Hugh Jackman, was recently named People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ and is set to host the 2009 Oscars. In a recent interview, he assured fans that “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” will deliver.

David Benioff, who wrote the script, is one of the great writers in Hollywood, and he is the biggest comic book fan in the history of the world. There is not an issue of “Wolverine” or “X-Men” that he doesn’t own. When he first pitched me the idea, he had such a brilliant idea that was his little twist on events. He’s written it smartly. He knows what the fans want.

Here are several photos from the movie set.

‘Day the Earth Stood Still’ is Weekend Box Office Winner

The Sci-Fi remake of ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ tops the weekend box office, however it came through with disappointing numbers. Read the rest of the story and see the complete top 10 below.

Jennifer Connelly Scott Derrickson Keanu Reeves

Director Scott Derrickson and stars Jennifer Connelly and Keanu Reeves top box office

‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ opened to strong numbers on Friday and Saturday, but the weekend total of $31 million was disappointing given the strong cast of Keanu Reeves and Oscar winners Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates. This marks the lowest grossing box office winner since the opening of ‘Max Payne’ back in October. Apparently the movie isn’t very good, getting just a 22% at Rotten Tomatoes, and word must have gotten around as the weekend progressed. This doesn’t bode well for the film recouping the $80 million it shelled out in production.

‘Twilight’, however, continues to do well, grossing $8 million this weekend and surpassing the $150 million mark for total box office sales. Also, despite early talk of a problematic movie, Four Christmases is proving to have staying power, raking in about $13.2 million this weekend, bringing its total to just under $90 million.

New Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ continues to hang around as well, making around $3.8 million over the weekend. The box office total of about $157.6million is just $10 million away from the title of “biggest Bond film ever,” which was set by Casino Royale in 2006.

Weekend Box Office Top 10

The Weekend Box Office Top 10 for December 12-14 is:

1. The Day the Earth Stood Still - $31milion (new)
2. Four Christmases - $13.2million, $87.9million total
3. Twilight - $8million, $150.1million total
4. Bolt - $6.5million, $88.8million total
5. Australia - $4.2million, $37.8million total
6. Nothing Like the Holidays - $3.5million (new)
7. Quantum of Solace - $3.8million, $157.6million total
8. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa - $3.2million, $170million total
9. Milk - $2.6million, $7.6million total (still in limited release)
10. Transporter 3 - $2.1million, $29.2million total

Hugh Jackman is Oscars Host

Sexiest Man Alive Hugh Jackman has been picked to host the 2009 Academy Awards. Read the rest of the story and see photos and video of Hugh Jackman below.

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman hosting the Academy Awards

Hugh Jackman, recently named the Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine, has been tapped to host the 2009 Academy Awards, set to air on February 22.

This marks a big step in a different direction for the upcoming Oscars telecast. The previous hosts, at least in recent history, have been comedians - John Stewart, Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Whoopi, Steve Martin and David Letterman have all hosted since the 1990s. Despite the laundry list of A-List funnymen (and women), the Oscars have seen a steady decline in viewership. The switch signals a desire by the Oscars producers to turn the program into more of a party rather than the bore fest it usually is. Producer Larry Mark said:

“In keeping with the thinking that the event needs to be more like a party, we’re trying to make it very much like a party. The Oscars are a celebration of movies, so who better to host than a movie star. Hugh can not only hold the screen, but he can hold the stage too, which is no small feat these days.”

On the type of feel they are going for with the upcoming production, Mark said:

“We’re going for the contemporary feel that you’d have at the Cocoanut Grove or the Stork Club, where everyone is encouraged to have a good time. If this were the old days, we’d be asking Cary Grant or Clark Gable to be the host. I think Hugh has a lot of those same qualities.”

Mark admits that people don’t tune into the Academy Awards for the host - they tune in for the awards themselves. However, he would like to get people to also focus on the show itself. Hugh Jackman certainly has practice getting people to focus on the show rather than the awards. He previously hosted the Tony awards, which he won an Emmy for.
