Now that Zac Efron is no longer doing Footloose he is on the prowl for a more serious film. According to Variety, he’s in negotiations to star in an upcoming film “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud”, which is based on the Novel.

“The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” in short revolves around a cemetery custodian who survives a horrific accident, and gains new perspective on the world around him.

The book’s description asserts that it contains “a love that transcends everything you may have believed about life and death.”

Zac Efron, whose rise to fame began with starring in Disney’s, High School Musical, has managed to avoid the negative stigma attached with being a young Disney performer. He takes chances and they appear to be paying off, like his exceptional performance in Hairspray, or his role in the upcoming film Orson Welles and Me.

Anne Hathaway

The Weinstein Company has announced that the role of, Judy Garland, will be played by Anne Hathaway, in the upcoming film Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland. The film based on The Gerald Clarke biography, is a biopic about the legendary singer/actress Judy Garland. It will cover everything from her rise to fame to her struggle with alcohol. I couldn’t think of a better role, for the 26-year-old ex-Disney starlet, who was recently nominated for an Oscar, for her role in the film Rachel Getting Married.

Hathaway is so determined to bring Garland’s life to the big screen; she’s willing to toss away her lead role in the future comedy The Fiance. A Hollywood tipster told The Daily Mail:

“Anne dearly wants to do a musical and this could be her chance. The big attraction is that it really will be her singing, not recordings of Judy. She is determined to do it justice. If she nails the part, she will be a shoo-in for some big awards.”

The 21-year-old actor appears in the April 2009 issue of Interview magazine in a provocative photo spread with a model. In one of the photos, the two are embracing in a sandbox and she is wearing nothing at all except traces of sand and mud which are neither large nor strategically placed. The striking black-and-white photograph is sure to be be talked about, as it cuts so strongly against perceptions of the young actor as a Disney movie teen heart throb. In real life, he is dating his ‘High School Musical’ costar Vanessa Hudgens and the couple frequently appears together on the red carpet.

The model has been revealed to be 20-year-old Lithuanian Edita Vilkeviciute.

Zac Efron talked about his motivation for the racy photos.

‘It was definitely different from anything I had ever done before. You know, everything I’ve done in the past has felt very safe, and it was great for a while, but now I’m looking for a place to take chances. I want to play with things.’
