The Sci-Fi remake of ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ tops the weekend box office, however it came through with disappointing numbers. Read the rest of the story and see the complete top 10 below.
‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ opened to strong numbers on Friday and Saturday, but the weekend total of $31 million was disappointing given the strong cast of Keanu Reeves and Oscar winners Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates. This marks the lowest grossing box office winner since the opening of ‘Max Payne’ back in October. Apparently the movie isn’t very good, getting just a 22% at Rotten Tomatoes, and word must have gotten around as the weekend progressed. This doesn’t bode well for the film recouping the $80 million it shelled out in production.
‘Twilight’, however, continues to do well, grossing $8 million this weekend and surpassing the $150 million mark for total box office sales. Also, despite early talk of a problematic movie, Four Christmases is proving to have staying power, raking in about $13.2 million this weekend, bringing its total to just under $90 million.
New Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’ continues to hang around as well, making around $3.8 million over the weekend. The box office total of about $157.6million is just $10 million away from the title of “biggest Bond film ever,” which was set by Casino Royale in 2006.
The Weekend Box Office Top 10 for December 12-14 is:
1. The Day the Earth Stood Still – $31milion (new)
