Well it turns out Tatum O’Neal isn’t the only one in her family with a drug problem. Her father and half-brother were busted having a little too much fun during a father-son get together. More photos below.
The “Wicked Wicked Games” actress, who chronicled her recovery from drug addiction four years ago, picked the wrong day back in June to walk up to a homeless guy on the lower East Side of New York and ask for crack. A narcotics team was conducting a drug sweep in that area that day and busted Tatum with two bags of drugs - one with crack, one with regular cocaine - and an unused crack pipe. She obviously doesn’t know NYC cops if she thought her excuse of “I am doing research for a part,” was going to fool them. O’Neal was charged with a seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and recently spoke about the dangers of drug use, and her concern for her family.
“Addiction, if untreated, can lead to jail, institutions and death. I love them both and I am sorry to hear about this.”
The reason for her concern? Her own father, actor Ryan O’Neal, had what is suspected to be meth in his “living area” within his Mailbu home while his son, Redmond was there. Redmond, who’s mother is Farrah Fawcett, is no gem himself. The 23-year old was given three years probation, also back in June, after pleading guilty to drug possession charges and was actually the reason the cops stopped by. It was a routine check so you’d think they would’ve made sure no drugs were in the house. Looks like the O’Neals aren’t the smartest bunch. Both knuckleheads were released the next day on $10,000 bail and could be charged with felony possession of narcotics.
So Tatum must be proud of old pop and little bro. She, on the other hand, started her life off well. At 10, she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Paper Moon” but then she grew up and it all went down hill. She married tennis star John McEnroe in 1986 and had three children before they divorced in 1992. In her memoir, “A Paper Life,” O’Neal admitted that her addiction to heroin in 1995 led to her losing custody of her children to McEnroe. She also claimed that her mother was an alcoholic and that her father abused her.
Who wouldn’t be messed up after that? She’s really good in her recurring role on FX’s series “Rescue Me” though. Don’t give up Tatum!
