Here is the ‘Duplicity’ trailer video. Tony Gilroy’s highly anticipated espionage thriller stars Julia Roberts and Clive Owen was released in theaters on March 20, 2009. See photos and the movie trailer here.
The movie chronicles the lives of two former spies with a romantic history together; CIA officer Claire Stenwick (Roberts) and MI6 agent Ray Koval (Owen). Both have left government intelligence to become corporate spies. They become involved in a high stakes war between two rival multinational pharmaceutical corporations who are seeking market domination. Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti portray the CEOs of the rival corporations which are both in a race to secure a formula and the first patent for a product. The former spies collaborate in an elaborate scheme against the corporations.
But as the ‘Duplicity’ trailer reveals, two former CIA spies remain true to their roots, so to speak, and they must cope with each other’s dirty tactics and their overwhelming attraction for each other.
The Duplicity trailer has given us our first glimpse of Julia Roberts’ much touted return in a leading role. It is hard to believe that Roberts, a reigning movie star of the 1990s and the highest grossing female movie star of all times, with $2.3 billion in ticket sales in the U.S., including 10 hit movies grossing more than $100 million, has been absent from the screen in a leading role since 2001. Her roles in recent years have been supporting roles; the actress has even had a Broadway stint. She has lived a quiet life mostly out of the limelight with her husband, the cameraman and cinematographer Danny Moder and their two children.
Tony Gilroy is both writer and director of the movie. He previously directed and wrote the Academy Award-nominated legal thriller “Michael Clayton” which starred George Clooney. Julia Roberts and Clive Owen previously starred together in “Closer” (2004), Patrick Marber’s acclaimed stage drama. “Duplicity” was produced for Universal Pictures by Laura Bickford, Jennifer Fox, John Gilroy and Kerry Orent.
