Here is the G.I. Joe Super Bowl TV spot which will be shown during the big game on February 1, 2009. Yes, it has debuted online! See photos and the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie trailer video here.
The highly anticipated live action movie based on the enduring, iconic G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero and G.I. Joe: Sigma 6 Hasbro toy franchise and Marvel comic book series will be in theaters on August 7, 2009. The new Super Bowl TV commercial is our first glimpse of footage from the movie.
The movie is directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy and The Mummy Returns), produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) and written by Stuart Beattie (Australia). It is set 10 years in the future and chronicles the rise of the G.I. Joe nemesis, the Cobra Organization a.k.a. Cobra Command, led by the mysterious, mask-wearing Cobra Commander. Parts of the movie were shot on location in The Czech Republic in the Old Town in Prague.
The movie features an ensemble cast: Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Christopher Eccleston, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Lee Byung-hun. Here are character posters recently released for the movie. Despite the large cast of characters and elaborate plot, the movie is said to be comprehensible even to the newcomer. A video game from EA is also in the works as is a four-issue prequel by Chuck Dixon to be published by IDW Publishing with each issue focusing on a single character. But above all, a live action screen adaptation for the ever popular G.I. Joe is long overdue.
