He was a well known director, known for his films such as Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club.

He brought the children of the 80’s movies that made viewers feel an emotional connection with the characters, and turned several young actors into super stars.

The circle of actors, known as the brat pack, included Matthew Broderick who played the famous Ferris Bueller and Molly Ringwald as pretty-in-pink outsider Andie Walsh.

John Hughes brought us some of the most memorable pop culture films that we will talk about for years to come, including: Some Kind of Wonderful, Planes Trains & Automobiles, The Great Outdoors, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, Sue, Only the Lonely, and Miracle on 34th Street.

Perhaps it is because he made movies that were relatable to almost everyone, he didn’t go for the far-fetched fairy tale, or the crazy action adventure.

In 1991 he told the New York Times in an interview,

“These are just simple truths about people and families. I happen to go for the simplest, most ordinary things. The extraordinary doesn’t interest me. I’m not interested in psychotics. I’m interested in the person you don’t expect to have a story. I like Everyman.”

John Hughes died on Thursday August 6, 2009, but he will be forever remembered from his incredible films.
