Twenty-three year old Leighton Meester seems to be branching out in the acting biz like some of her costars. Meester has signed on to star in a remake of Thelma and Louise titled Cowgirl Bandits.
Starring alongside Leighton Meester on screen as her partner in crime will be actress Amber Heard, who just recently starred in the box office hit Zombieland. Heard’s other film credits include Friday Night Lights and the Pineapple Express.
Just like Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, the duo will hit the open road, hoping to leave the hum drum of their daily life behind. Jeff Manafort is set to direct while Paul Schiff will be producing Cowgirl Bandits. No other details surrounding the movie’s release date or filming date has been released.
Leighton, who currently plays Blair Waldorf on the Gossip Girls, also has two new movies coming out in 2010, Date Night and The Roommate. The actress’ other credits include Hangman’s Curse, Flourish, Inside Josie, Drive-Thru and Remember the Daze. She is also a singer-songwriter.
