Here is the music video of Mariah Carey’s song “Right to Dream” from the movie “Tennessee.” The movie will open in limited release in March 2009. See photos and the music video here.
In “Tennessee” Mariah Carey portrays an aspiring singer, Krystal. She meets up with two brothers, Carter (Adam Rothenberg) and Ellis (Ethan Peck), embarked on a journey from New Mexico to find their estranged father in the hopes of saving Ellis, who had been diagnosed with terminal leukemia. She leaves her controlling husband, (Lance Reddick) and joins the brothers on their journey, to pursue her dream of becoming a singer.
Mariah Carey co-wrote “Right to Dream” with country music legend Willie Nelson and recorded the track with his harmonica player, Mickey Raphael. Of the song, Nelson said:
”She and I hung out and decided to do something together…It’s not really [country]. It’s more Mariah. We wouldn’t have it any other way.”
The music video has scenes from the movie, including the scene in which Krystal has the opportunity to sing the song live in a club on open-mic night.
“It was a different experience from an album project. I was very close to the story and in particular my character’s struggle, so it made it easier for me as a writer. I just began channeling Krystal’s pain and hope,” Mariah said on the songwriting process, adding “The song is basically a three-act play and chronicles the evolution of Krystal.”
“Tennessee” was produced by Lee Daniels (”Monster’s Ball,” “The Woodsman,” “Shadowboxer”) and directed by Aaron Woodley.
The movie opened in a single theater in L.A. on December 5, 2008 for a one-week qualifying engagement Academy Award consideration for Best Picture and Best Song. See film clips, photos and the movie trailer at the movie’s official Web site, www.tennesseethefilm.com.
