Actor Mark Wahlberg has signed on to star in the remake of Reykjavik-Rotterdam. The flick originates from Iceland and will now be revamped for US movie goers.
Reykjavik-Rotterdam is described as a thriller and was a huge hit in Iceland. Producers are hoping it will be just as Oscar worthy here. The story places The Departed star Mark Wahlberg in the lead role of Christopher, a former freight ship employee who decides to smuggle alcohol. Eventually he goes straight, taking a job as a security guard. Wahlberg’s character is enticed back into the underworld by a friend in financial trouble, this time with plenty more at stake.
Baltasar Kurmakur, the star of Reykjavik-Rotterdam in Iceland, will be directing. Aaron Guzikowski will be penning the remake. Listed in the position of executive producers are Stephen Levinson as well as Mark Wahlberg. The British production company, Working Title Films, will produce Reykjavik-Rotterdam.
Currently Mark Wahlberg is wrapping up work on the set of The Fighter alongside actor Christian Bale. He is also committed to filming the comedy The Other Guys with the hilarious Will Ferrell.
