Surely movie stars buy expensive things all the time, but $1 million for a painting? Brad Pitt attended the 40th Art Basel fair in Switzerland, where he fell in love with a painting by German artist, Neo Rauch entitled “Etappe.”
The Etappe painting portrays a scene at an automobile racetrack in a contemporary style. Neo Rauch made the Ettappe in 1998 using oil as his medium on linen.
According to reports, Pitt lingered in front of the painting, then walked away, later returning with Eli and Edythe Broad. Onlookers took cellphone camera photos of the Hollywood actor while he pondered his decision. Pitt eventually bought the Neo Rauch Etappe painting for a reported $960,000.
