A few big titles are coming out this Tuesday, March 18, on DVD. If you missed them in the theater, here’s your chance to catch them on the small screen.
I Am Legend
The biggest name coming out on DVD this week has got to be “I Am Legend”. It stars Will Smith as Robert Neville, a military scientist who appears to be the last man on earth. A cure for cancer that mutated into a deadly biochemical disease has killed everyone, and as the sole survivor, Neville makes it his mission to find a cure and reverse the effects of the disease on the zombies who live with Neville in New York City. Based on the book of the same name, “I Am Legend” received overall good reviews. Scott Fondas of “Village Voice” says,
In what has been a pretty remarkable career up to now, it’s this performance that fully affirms Smith as one of the great leading men of his generation.
Atonement
Oscar-nominated “Atonement” also releases this Tuesday, starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. When Briony Tallis accuses Robbie Turner (James McAvoy) of a crime he didn’t commit, his life and the life of his lover, Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightley), all of their lives are turned upside down. It’s a story of a love torn apart and family betrayal. The critics loved it, with Derek Elley of “Variety” saying,
Rarely has a book sprung so vividly to life, but also worked so enthrallingly in pure movie terms, as with Atonement, Brit helmer Joe Wright’s smart, dazzlingly upholstered adaptation of Ian McEwan’s celebrated 2001 novel.
Other new movies releasing on DVD this week include “Enchanted”, and “Love in the Time of Cholera”. Some old classics coming out are “Bull Durham (20th Anniversary Edition)” and “Eight Men Out (20th Anniversary Edition)”.
