The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie (2012) is finally in the works now that Nickelodeon has purchased the rights, from Mirage Group and 4Kids Entertainment, for the green guys.
The new movie is reportedly scheduled to debut in 2012 as well as a CG animated TV series. Currently the Turtles air on the CW Network on Saturday mornings but will officially change hands in August of 2010.
“’Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ shares a comedic sensibility with the Nickelodeon DNA,” stated Nickelodeon President Cyma Zarghami. “We are extremely happy to have the opportunity to be able to focus on this property and creatively re-introduce it to a new generation of kids.”
Aside from scoring the rights for a new series and movie, for a cool $60 million, Nickelodeon also now holds to rights to merchandising as well and will surely be cranking out plenty of new crime fighting Mutant Ninja toys.
“Action adventure has not been part of our DNA” so we plan to “stretch our brand and embrace a lot more stuff,” said Nickelodeon President Cyma Zarghami.
The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie will be released through Paramount and will reportedly be developed by creator Peter Laird and producer Scott Mednick.
