Already dubbed a ‘Beyonce new movie,’ it stars the singer in her first non-musical dramatic role with with co-stars Ali Larter, fashion model turned actress who stars in the popular NBC TV series “Heroes,” and Idris Elba, a British TV, theater and movie actor and DJ who appeared in Ridley Scott’s “American Gangster” (and co-produced Jay-Z’s “American Gangster” soundtrack album) and recently in Guy Ritche’s “RocknRolla.” The movie also stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Christine Lahti, Bruce McGill, Ron Rogge, Jerry O’Connell and Richard Ruccolo.
Steve Shill directed the Obsessed movie from a screenplay by David Loughery. Will Packer is the producer. We may consider it a ‘Beyonce movie’ as the music superstar and her father Matthew Knowles are executive producers of the movie for Screen Gems. It is sometimes mistakenly referred to as the ‘Obsession movie’ or ‘Obsession the movie.’

The ‘Obsessed trailer reveals the frightening events that unfold when Derek Charles (Idris Elba), who is extremely happy with his wife Sharon (Beyonce Knowles) and young son and has a rewarding career as a recently promoted asset manager, meets up with a temp worker in his office (Ali Larter) whose harmless flirtations take a dark turn as she begins stalking him and becomes determined to murder his wife.
From what we see in the Obsessed trailer, this is not just a “fatal attraction” story; it appears to mirror closely Adrian Lyne’s 1987 classic “Fatal Attraction” with the unforgettable Glenn Close as Alex Forrest terrorizing the lives of the couple portrayed by Michael Douglas and Anne Archer; a movie which in turn was quite similar to Clint Eastwood’s 1970 classic “Play Misty for Me.” It’s a plot that continues to fascinate and shock in real life and in cinematic life. “Obsessed” banks heavily upon the expected appeal.
