“Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer” is an upcoming spin-off of the Shrek series. Learn more about the movie, plus check out pictures and video here.
The upcoming spin-off of Shrek titled “Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer,” will star Antonio Banderas as the titular characters voice over. The character of Puss is based on the legendary masked man Zorro’s fighting technique, Spanish accent, and personality, which Banderas also portrayed in “The Mask of Zorro” and its sequel.
Despite his tiny stature, Puss is an accomplished fighter who is clever in his sword fighting capabilities, usually running circles around his opponents who can’t keep up with him. His main defense is to use his adorable nature, gazing up at the enemy with a cute, wide-eyed appearance, which usually softens his opponent’s heart.
In an interview with Comingsoon.net, Antonio Banderas revealed how the film came about, saying:
I went to DreamWorks and they pitched me what is going to be Puss in Boots’ own movie, and it looks unbelievable. It looks really, really cool. They’ve been working very, very heavy on the script for almost three years, and they didn’t just want to give me any kind of thing until the other day when Jeffrey finally called me and he said it was done. I went there and I was very surprised how the movie is going to take off. I love it.”
The spin-off will also introduce a new character named Kitty, the love interest. There is no word yet on who will take on the voice of Kitty.
Puss in Boots is set to be released some time in 2012.
