Sad news for Friday Night Light fans has come down the TV pike. Taylor Kitsch, aka bad boy Tim Riggins, is on his way out the door for season 5 of the Texas football loving series. His main focus in the coming years will be on the big screen.

Kitsch is one of my main reasons for tuning into the long running series that has jumped over to Direct TV. Recently speaking out, the show’s executive producer Jason Katims said this about Taylor’s plans to leave Friday Night Lights in an effort pursue his role in John Carter of Mars:

“Because this was a big opportunity for him, we wanted to let him do that,” Katims says of Kitsch’s movie role, which begins shooting next month. “We’ll stay in close contact with production and try to get him for as many episodes as possible.”

I hope for one that Kitsch does in fact return for at least half of the season. His on screen character Tim Riggins is one of the few original cast members left. The other downfall is the introduction of several new characters that may have failed to grab a strong fan base just yet. With Riggins on the outs FNL is left with Julie and Landry. The previous actors have all left the series to attend college. Where will Tim Riggins be headed? Whatever the case, Kitsch has apparently decided to move on to bigger and better things seeing how Friday Night Lights has only one season left.

Right now the Canadian actor holds roles in The Bang Bang Club as the character Carter on top of his work coming up in John Carter of Mars.
