Wes Craven wrote and directed the controversial, groundbreaking original movie in 1972; Sean S. Cunningham was the producer. It launched the director’s career and was highly influential upon the horror film genre.

He produced the remake with longtime production partner Marianne Maddalena and Sean S. Cunningham for Rogue Pictures.

“I’m far enough removed from these films that the remakes are a little like having grandchildren,” Craven said. “The story, about the painful side effects of revenge, is an evergreen. The headlines are full of people and nations taking revenge and getting caught up in endless cycles of violence.”

The remake was directed by the Greek filmmaker Dennis Iliadis, who previously directed ‘Hardcore.’ First-time screenwriter Adam Alleca wrote the screenplay with Carl Ellsworth (’Red Eye,’ ‘Disturbia’).

The trailer looks powerful, suspenseful and chilling in retelling the story of two parents, John and Emma Collingwood (Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter) who go to extreme lengths to seek revenge against Krug (Garret Dillahunt) and his fellow sociopaths who brutally assaulted their daughter Mari (Sara Paxton). The movie title derives from the ironic twist of fate that the couple unwittingly give shelter to the sociopaths at their lake shore vacation house. The trailer also makes effective use of a creepy cover of “Sweet Child of Mine.”

Here are several photos from the movie. More photos and ‘The Last House on the Left’ movie trailer video are below.
