“The Princess and the Frog” is Disney’s first non-computer animated film since “Home on the Range” in 2004. It is loosely based on the E.D. Baker book “The Frog Princess,” and will be directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, who also brought you the Disney films, The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, and Treasure Planet. Randy Newman is the song and score composer, and the all-star voice over lineup features, Anika Noni Rose, Oprah Winfrey, Jim Cummings, Keith David, John Goodman, Bruno Campos, Jenifer Lewis, Peter Bartlett, Micheal-Leon Wooley, and Terrence Howard.
The basis of the movie is that it’s an American fairy tale/musical that takes place in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Prince Naveen, ruler of the land of Maldonia, is transformed into a frog by Dr. Facilier, who is a voodoo magician. The frog prince requests for a waitress named Tiana to kiss him. Instead of the prince turning back into a human, Tiana turns into a frog as well. Together they set out on a journey to reach the good voodoo priestess of Bayou, Mama Odie, while running into some unique characters along the way.
The Princess and the Frog is scheduled to be released December 11, 2009.
