Summit Entertainment still riding Twilight’s recent wave of success, has acquired the feature-film rights to the Harry Houdini biography “The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero,” according to the Hollywood Reporter..
The biography was authored by William Kalush, and Larry Sloman, and was published in 2006 by Atria books. The book suggests that Harry Houdini was a British spy, as well as an adviser to Czar Nicholas II’s. It also depicts Houdini as a con-artist debunker exposing spiritualist swindlers.
Summit Entertainment through out the biopic concept, and went with a character who is Indiana Jones and Sherlock Holmes all rolled into one.
The project will be supervised by Ashley Schlaifer Summit’s creative executive, Erik Feig president of production, and senior VP of production Geoff Shaevitz. The studio is still in the process of finding screenplay writers.
Hollywood has seen numerous Houdini projects over the years with very few successes; does summit have the magic to keep this Houdini film from disappearing?
