“The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” is an upcoming action packed thriller that is based on the novel written by Morton Freedgood. Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer are co-distributing the film, and Brian Helgeland penned the script; which is a remake of the 1974 movie with the same name. It began production in March 2008, and is set to premier on June 12, 2009.
Here’s The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 synopsis:
A gang of hijackers, headed by a character named Ryder, take control of a NYC subway train. They demand one million dollars per a person on the train as ransom, and if their demands aren’t met within an hour it means death for the passengers. Negotiator Zachary Garber tries to reason with the hijackers in an effort to try to save the hostage’s lives. As the clock begins to tick down to the last minutes, Garber proposes his surrender to Ryder in exchange for releasing the passengers.
The movie features a pretty familiar line up which includes: Denzel Washington as Zachary “Z” Garber, John Travolta as Bernard Ryder (a.k.a. Mr. Blue), James Gandolfini as the mayor of New York City, Ramon Rodriguez as a MTA dispatcher, Gbenga Akinnagbe as Wallace and Luis Guzman as Ramos.
