In “The Unborn,” Odette Yustman plays a young woman, Casey, who is tormented by the soul of her unborn twin. The twin is determined to kill her, thereby using her death as a gateway for him to reach life. Gary Oldman portrays her spiritual advisor, Sendak.

With Sendak’s help, Casey uncovers the source of a family curse dating back to Nazi Germany—a creature with the ability to inhabit anyone or anything that is getting stronger with each possession. With the curse unleashed, her only chance at survival is to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.

The movie seems reminiscent of “The Exorcist,” “The Omen” and “The Mephisto Waltz” in exploring similar themes. Nonetheless, it’s refreshing to find a horror movie that attempts to be an intelligent, thought provoking examination of the spirit world and its impact upon humans.

The Unborn” was produced by Michael Bay for Rogue Pictures and also stars Meagan Good, Cam Gigandet, James Remar, Jane Alexander, Carla Gugino, and Idris Elba.

Odette Yustman most recently starred in the horror movie “Cloverfield.” Screen veteran Gary Oldman most recently co-starred “The Dark Knight”
