M. Night Shyamalan hit it big right off the bat with “Sixth Sense”, but since then he’s struggled to get back to that number one spot. Even with films like “Signs”, “The Village”, “Lady in the Water”, and “The Happening”, the screenwriter just hasn’t seen the success he initially experienced in Hollywood. The closest he’s come is “Stuart Little”, and that was a completely different genre. But now he’s looking at making a little comeback with the surprising story of “Unbreakable 2″.
Shyamalan was talking to MTV the other day, and said that he’s kicked the idea around quite a bit.
I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it’s not [an idea] I ever forget… I genuinely just asked this question the other day — should I make ‘Unbreakable 2’? …I made the mistake of getting caught up in the hype of the immediate reaction of the movie, which, experience has shown me, is not accurate to any of my movies. And If I had been more confident and said ‘I believe in that movie, I love that movie, and I should just go start writing the second one,” that would’ve been the right move. I’ve still been thinking about it a lot and wonder if it’s too late.
In fact, it’s rumored that the first “Unbreakable” was set to be the first of a trilogy, and Samuel L. Jackson’s character would break out of the asylum to face off against Bruce Willis in a final battle.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if “Unbreakable 2″ really happens. Until then we’ll just have to watch the “The Last Airbender” and see if the films have gotten any better since the last one.
