Zombieland, which premiered on Friday, took in $25 million over the weekend. The comedy/horror flick has received favorable reviews so no surprise it topped the Box Office. Find out which flicks rounded out the Top 10.

Zombieland

The Invention of Lying, starring Ricky Gervais, and Whip It, starring Ellen Page, had a disappointing weekend, with Gervais’ film taking in $7.4 million and the roller derby flick directed by Drew Barrymore bringing in $4.9 million.

Michael Moore’s documentary, Capitalism: A Love Story, grossed $4.9 million, with showings now in almost 1,000 theaters. This beat his 2007 documentary Sicko, which took in $3.6 million when it went to a similar wider release.

Toy Story (1 and 2), which was released in 3-D as a double feature, grossed $12.5 million. The highly anticipated Toy Story 3 opens in June 2010.

Zombieland’s $25 million weekend is the best opening star Woody Harrelson has ever had, plus he has received stellar reviews to boot for his role as Tallahassee. It’s been reported that it cost Sony Pictures $23.6 million to make, so no doubt studio execs are thrilled with the opening numbers. Rory Bruer of Sony said the movie is

“…an action comedy first. That’s what resonated with audiences. The zombies were the icing on the cake.”
